Product Design Project for Parkinson's Disease Competition
La Jolla, CA; January - June 2019

Developed an award-winning exercise mat from research and prototyping methods within a team of 9 in a Design-a-thon competition to enable people with Parkinson's to resolve their issues with gait and personal agency.

Gathered findings and insights about Parkinson's Disease from secondary research and in-person interviews that classified 3 core problem spaces from a group participatory design sprint.

Ideated upon focused problem spaces based on gathered research and inspiration of existing solutions that enabled rapid prototyping and pivoting of 3 different solutions to explore.

Documented hundreds of photos and at least 30 video clips of research sessions and team design process to further inform research insights, multiple pivoting decisions, and content strategy for 5 project deliverables.

Presented work publicly within 2 Design-a-thon workshops and a final presentation showcase, which translated to a $2,000 award for first-place ranking in the competition.

Designed a high-fidelity, interactive mockup of a website in a team of 4 within an information architecture course for the CEO of a 3D-printing startup company, which served as a platform for automating customer orders for 3-D printed parts.

Documented prioritized needs and functionalities of the website based on client expectations, interviews, and competitive analysis of existing websites, which informed the team of 3 personas, 6 user scenarios, and several use cases to base website design decisions on.

Drafted the information architecture and sketches of the website to follow design considerations of the ordering process of 3D printed parts, order history, and other main features of the website.

Iterated on wireframes of the website that streamlined the ordering process experience and clarified information about available services and materials, informed from feedback from mentor critiques, client feedback, and user testing.

Ticketing Kiosk Project, design college course
La Jolla, CA; January - March 2019

Designed the digital interface of a physical movie-theater kiosk called Cinemunch with a team of 4 in a prototyping course that would enable moviegoers to order movie tickets and food in one place.

Generated user testing findings and insights for kiosk and digital interface features, based on research artifacts, sketches of solution features and user flow, and rapid prototyping.

Converted user testing feedback, design specifications, and visual style guides into the interaction design of 2 different wireframe prototypes of the kiosk digital interface and features, which would be implemented as a digital screen on a laptop installed within the physical kiosk.

Spearheaded visual design efforts to generate and finalize physical kiosk aesthetics, digital interface functionality, final presentation slide deck, and a marketing poster that received positive reviews from teaching assistants, and the professor.

User Researcher

Hyundai Lab Project for Automation Playground subgroup - UC San Diego Design Lab
La Jolla, CA; October 2018 - January 2019

Conducted fieldwork within the local campus area to observe and investigate the normal behavior of vehicles and pedestrians, with a total of 85 annotated observations, 341 images, and approximately 50 video clips gathered for analysis.

Annotated digitized research data to assist project facilitators with data gathering, consolidation, and synthesis of relevant issues to transportation, which contributed to team prototyping and discussion within ideation workshops.

Captured additional photos of team sketches for potential autonomous vehicles (AVs), the interior design of AVs, and personal items carried that informed final research findings and presentations related to robotaxis and micro-mobility topics.

Made early iterations of a Hyundai driving app as well as features for an entertainment dashboard hub system using Figma, which paved the way for more higher fidelity designs for user testing and project handoff.

Compiled spreadsheets of requested quantities and preferences for 49 different types of giveaway items based on responses from 11 staff members, which enabled the executive director of the Career Center to gain an informed understanding on how to establish a budget around giveaway item requests.

Shoperone Mobile App Project, design college course
La Jolla, CA; August - September 2018

Designed a hi-fidelity Figma prototype of a mobile app with a team of 7 called Shoperone to help seniors with their grocery shopping by connecting them to assistive volunteers, which won 2nd place in a fictitious Shark Tank Challenge.

Guided team members on best practices for user research, initial design artifacts, and prototyping, which ensured that research and design efforts are understandable, operationalized, and backed by group consensus.

Conducted interviews and competitive analysis to inform problem spaces and existing services that were most relevant to seniors.

Contributed to team discussions of solution feature ideation and wireframing of low to medium fidelity wireframe prototypes of the app.

Documented user testing results and user research to be implemented into the iteration of our prototype and final presentation slide deck.

Managed the entire production of a commercial video, from scriptwriting and direction of production shoots to media equipment management and post-production, which was successfully incorporated and played during the team's final presentation.

Mundo Gardens Community Project, Global TIES college course

Managed a team of 7 to collaborate with Mundo Gardens, a non-profit community garden in National City, to create wooden signage and a drip irrigation system to resolve volunteer and garden management issues.

Scheduled regular in-person meetings with the executive director and other volunteers that enabled research and design efforts to be consistently aligned and supported from stakeholders.

Prioritized signage and drip irrigation solution ideas based on interviews, identified problem spaces, stakeholder feedback, online inspiration, and a Pugh chart for objective design decision making.

Ideated different forms of signage by making Google Slides and live physical construction and prototyping of wooden boards to represent and test the potential design of signage.

Generated feedback from 6-7 participants during user testing sessions using user testing parameters and materials that tested 3 key aspects of the different signage prototypes produced.

Implemented documents that outlined sustainable production and maintenance for the signage and drip irrigation solutions for Mundo Gardens to use in the future.

Compiled a 78 page final report to document the team's end-to-end process within our collaboration with Mundo Gardens.

Developed an app service for woodworkers and customers called Fingo that make services for custom wooden furniture more accessible and transparent, with a team of 5 and within a startup studio design course.

Generated competitive analyses and storyboards to define and ideate upon our problem space.

Executed Google Ad campaigns, online A/B user testing, and service enactments to evaluate and iterate on our app concept based on success metrics, data mining results, and live feedback from task analysis paper prototyping sessions.

Developed high-fidelity wireframes of the mobile app prototype that reflected desired needs and value proposition models from user research and design specifications.

Managed the entire video production process of a final marketing video to persuade investment of the development of the Fingo app via a Kickstarter page, which enabled the team to win 2nd place out of 6 different groups in a fictitious money investment game challenge.

Produced fundraising videos that justified what Yonder Dynamics needed to help support their endeavors for constructing competition-ready rovers, which contributed to the $7,300 funding on Kickstarter in 2018 and $1,950 funding on Indiegogo in 2019.

Edited videos of the Systems Acceptance Review (SAR) of the rover that demonstrated how the rover is ready for the competition, which enabled UC San Diego to be featured as one of the selected teams for the URC 2018.

Recorded hundreds of video clips to direct coverage of the student organization's construction of the rover and its physical capabilities related to URC's tasks.

Coordinated scheduled times, locations, and required shots with the business lead, project manager, and other student executive members to ensure coverage of the requirements outlined in the University Rover Challenge (URC) guidelines to showcase the rover.

This video was made for Housing, Dining, and Hospitality, a well-known organization at UC San Diego that oversees student housing, local markets, and dining halls on campus.
  3. Wellness Fair - This was a video recap of Wellness Fair. Although this event focused on the seven dimensions of wellness, the video emphasized the educational, social, and fitness aspects of health and well being.
